The Tukutuku Collection
These TŌKENA were part of our second collection.
Tukutuku tell a story, each pattern carry different meanings. I made my version of the panels that I would sit in front of at wānanga at my marae. This was my tupuna guiding me.
There are three different designs
Pātiki
Poutama
Niho Taniwha

This is a very brief interpretation from my kōrero with my whānau.
Pātiki - Flounder. Represent lots of things including abundance, sharing and manaakitanga.
Poutama - Stairway. Pursuing knowledge and growth.
Niho Taniwha - Teeth of the taniwha. Together they are passing down strength and stability and our stories for generations.
